Description:
A signed portrait of George Femor, 3rd Earl of Pontefract and Baron Leominster 1768-1830 in its original ornate gilt gesso scroll frame. The family seat was at Easton Neston in Northamptonshire where this picture originally hung.
The Artist Mather Brown born in Boston, Massachusetts in 1761 arrived in London in 1781 and was a successful portrait painter, he painted the first portrait of Thomas Jefferson in 1785, later the Duke of York and Albany. Other paintings include the Prince of Wales, later the Duke of York and Albany. Other paintings include the Prince of Wales, later King George IV and Queen Charlotte and Cornwallis. Brown died in poverty in London on mAY 25th, 1831.
